How Do I Know If Medical Malpractice Caused My Injuries or Not?

At McArthur Law Firm, a common question we hear in free consultations for medical negligence claims is: how do I know if medical malpractice caused my injuries? The reason is that doctors, hospitals and medical professionals rarely tell victims and families when a mistake was made. However, as attorney Kathy McArthur explains in this video, sometimes nurses or other workers will recommend our law firm to families after medical malpractice causes wrongful death. When this happens, we take steps to investigate and find answers for you.

What I generally hear is that something unexpected happened, either someone went in for something that was supposed to be very simple and suddenly they’re in ICU with a completely unexpected outcome. Or, heaven forbid, a family member goes in for something that was supposed to be routine, and they don’t make it out. They’re deceased. In that case, it’s usually true, that there should be an autopsy done by the medical facility where this occurred. It doesn’t always happen. But if I get the call quickly enough from a family member who says something untoward has happened and they have questions, I go ahead and tell them. As much as you don’t want to have an autopsy done, you need to. Just because we have—we need to know the cause of death. It’s an awful time for the family and it’s a hard discussion to have with them. But another way that people know is because sometimes medical professionals, particularly nurses, will say to a family, just off to the side quietly: you need to call a lawyer. And sometimes, in fact, a fair amount of the time, people tell me that they called our law firm because my name was given to them by a nurse at the hospital. Or a doctor at the hospital. Or somebody who knows of the work that we do. So, you know, that’s generally how people know. It’s when there’s an unexpected outcome. And it seems like the biggest hurdle for people is the intimidation factor of just taking the step to call a lawyer. At the McArthur Law Firm, our job is to fight for you. To make sure you get justice and reasonable compensation for your injuries. To get in touch with us, call 1-888-WE-FIGHT, or go to our website
