In a tragic crash on I-16 that involved at least seven vehicles, five lives were taken this morning. The tractor trailer wrecks occurred in Bryan County, Georgia just west of the Highway 280 exit.

According to news sources, a tractor-trailer truck appears to have been driving too fast and failed to properly and safely slow the 18-wheeler for traffic ahead, which had slowed as a result of an early morning wreck ahead.

Loaded tractor-trailer trucks take significant more time to brake and stop than do regular passenger cars. Safe distances should always be kept between other drivers on the roadway, and careful attention must always be paid to traffic ahead to enable the truck driver to have time to respond.

These events serve as a horrible reminder of what is at risk when you are on the roadway. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of all of those involved.
