A 20-year-old man from Rex, Georgia died in a construction accident in mid-September. The accident happened at a work site at 1110 West Peachtree Street in Atlanta. The worker’s employer, Batson-Cook Construction, stated that there was an equipment accident on the site that led to the worker’s death. When asked if the equipment was a crane, the president of the company said that all he knew what that the accident involved equipment that was placing concrete. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the accident. A friend of the victim spoke anonymously with reporters to give his thoughts on what might have happened. He theorized that a shackle used to connect a vat of cement to a crane failed. This may have been because the shackle was made of nylon instead of steel.
