Another IVC Filter Death in Georgia Leads to Lawsuit

An inferior vana cava filter, or IVC Filter, is a surgical implant designed to prevent life-threatening pulmonary emboli (PE). PE is a blockage of an artery in the lungs by a substance that traveled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream. IVC Filters have been the subject of numerous wrongful death lawsuits due to their high defect rate. A Georgia widow recently filed a lawsuit against Argon Medical Devices Inc. and Rex Medical, L.P., the manufacturers of the OPTIONTM ELITE Retrievable IVC Filter. The lawsuit states that the widow’s husband suffered injury due to his IVC Filter, leading to his death. These filters are supposed to prevent PE. However, he died after blood clots traveled to both of his lungs.
