What is Georgia’s “Yield Behind the Wheel” initiative? Harvest season is upon us, and in Georgia that means an increase in the number of tractors and farm equipment on rural roads. You’ve probably seen a tractor or two already, but what you might not know is that farmers are putting their lives on the line every time they take a tractor onto the road with cars. The relative lack of protection afforded by tractors means that farmers are exposed to a serious risk of injury and even death in car accidents. According to reports, last year, there were nearly 500 vehicle crashes involving farm and construction vehicles. 185 resulted in injuries while 12 led to fatalities. New DUI Law: How Much Do DUIs Cost?

The new DUI law, which grants first-time offenders more options for keeping their licenses after a DUI, went into effect on July 1. It allows drivers to seek permits to drive if they purchase an ignition interlock device (IID), a form of in-car breathalyzer that prevents a car from starting or continuing unless a sober driver blows into it. The IID must be purchased by the driver, adding yet another fee to the roughly $10,000 a DUI costs. The True Cost of DUI The financial burden of a DUI and the jail time are not the biggest costs associated with drunk driving, though – that would be the potential for serious injury or death. What Are the Most Dangerous Days to Drive?

A telematics and GPS vehicle tracking company called Geotab recently released a report discussing fatality and traffic data over the course of the past ten years. The goal? To identify the most dangerous days to drive, as well as the safest, in the United States. The number one most dangerous day to drive in America is the recent July 4 holiday, when many Americans go out to celebrate the nation’s independence. July 4 has an average fatal crash rate of 14.9 per billion miles driven according to the study, and 47 percent of crashes on that day involve alcohol. The average rate of alcohol-related crashes is 28 percent, comparatively. New Year’s Day and Halloween both also come with a drastically inflated rate of alcohol-related accidents.
