Is Fiat Chrysler Cheating on Emissions Just Like VW?

In September 2015, Volkswagen was exposed. The company had lied to emission regulators about how much pollutants its diesel vehicles emitted, and the consequences shook the entire industry. Fast-forward to now, and VW is paying $4.3 billion in fines and compensation, but the real surprise is that Fiat Chrysler might also get swept up into the dieselgate madness. Did the EPA Just Catch Fiat Chrysler Cheating on Emissions Too? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accusing Fiat Chrysler (FCA) of diesel emissions shenanigans. The federal watchdog says that it has discovered software in FCA diesel light trucks and Jeeps that could affect the vehicles’ emissions. Agency officials say that the software can increase and decrease the level of nitrogen-oxide—a chemical that can harm people’s health—but it’s not quite sure just how far the software goes. FCA denies that the software is a defeat device, and the president of FCA…

Can Volkswagen Buy Your Loyalty Back?

Earlier this year, Volkswagen settled with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The settlement was for $15 billion, but that was only the beginning of the process. More problems and settlements have crept up since the dieselgate manufacturers bit the bullet on this case. Is There Any Loyalty for Volkswagen to Buy Back? In the middle of court, the attorney from Volkswagen shared a story about a dieselgate victim. The car was rejected, but that hasn’t stopped others from trying the same thing. U.S. District Court Judge Charles Breyer condemned such actions and then accepted another dieselgate settlement from VW. The newest settlement is for $1 billion, and applies to the company’s 6-cylinder TDI vehicles. Unlike the…

Is Audi About to Expand VW’s Dieselgate Shame?

Audi is the luxury arm of the massive Volkswagen automobile empire, so you would expect it to produce high quality products. Well, the automotive marque got pulled into VW’s largest corporate flub—dieselgate. Some of the luxury cars had what the EPA described as “defeat devices,” which helped the cars cheat on emissions. Only a few models from Audi were affected, and the subsequent recall and incentives seemed to be repairing the company’s reputation… That was until authorities discovered Audi also had its own hidden defeat device in addition to VW’s. Dieselgate Is Still Under the Hood at Audi The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is reporting that it may have found another defeat device. This time the device is in the software that runs the transmissions in both gas-powered and diesel-powered Audi luxury vehicles. This announcement makes things harder for Audi’s parent company, Volkswagen. The German conglomerate was hoping to…
