Macon Personal Injury Lawyer Explains what makes a Specialist

Choosing an attorney after a car or truck accident or if you were injured by medical malpractice is likely one of the most important decisions you will make. Our firm always recommends that people research attorneys before hiring them—look at the firm’s history of verdicts and settlements, for one, and see what past clients think.

In this video, Macon personal injury lawyer Kathy McArthur explains how she is not only an experienced litigator—she is Board Certified as a civil trial specialist. This is not something that just any attorney can achieve and reflects her unique and specialized knowledge of the law. Further, hiring an attorney who is a specialist will not cost you higher attorney fees than any other lawyer!

In Georgia, you’re not even allowed to call yourself a specialist unless you’ve taken certification exams which very few people, you can say I focus on this area of law or that area of law, but very few attorneys have actually taken board certification exams; I happen to be one who did. I am board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, the NBOTA. I took my board certification exams at least fifteen years ago, maybe twenty years ago, when it was just brand new and nobody did it, and in fact very few people do it now. What it means is you can say I specialize in trucking litigation. Wrecks caused by tractor trailers. I specialize in medical malpractice cases and I’ve done a lot of trials, I’ve had a lot of big verdicts in both truck wreck cases and in medical malpractice cases. People need to look to the qualifications and the experience of the attorney that they’re talking to. And I advise people, talk to more than one. It doesn’t cost anything. You know, it’s probably going to be the most important decision they may ever make, other than who to marry and when to have children possibly, but, you know hiring the right lawyer is that big a decision.
