The Coast Guard was called, and a search for the missing man began. Soon investigators were able to find security footage that showed a man falling off the 11th deck of the Elation. The Coast Guard continued to search for the man until February 14th, but when they found no sign of him, the search was ended.

The Carnival Elation put back to port in Jacksonville on February 18th missing one of the cruise line’s guests. Reporters were on the scene questioning passengers as they disembarked, but guests on the Elation had not been informed of the tragedy. Considering that cruise lines are responsible for the safety of their guests while out to sea, this could be a black mark on Carnival and it could lead to lawsuits. The Coast Guard has so far said that it does not believe foul play was involved, but it has not revealed any other details.
