Another IVC Filter Death in Georgia Leads to Lawsuit

iStock-531917486-resize-300x200.jpgAn inferior vana cava filter, or IVC Filter, is a surgical implant designed to prevent life-threatening pulmonary emboli (PE). PE is a blockage of an artery in the lungs by a substance that traveled from elsewhere in the body through the bloodstream. IVC Filters have been the subject of numerous wrongful death lawsuits due to their high defect rate.

A Georgia widow recently filed a lawsuit against Argon Medical Devices Inc. and Rex Medical, L.P., the manufacturers of the OPTIONTM ELITE Retrievable IVC Filter. The lawsuit states that the widow's husband suffered injury due to his IVC Filter, leading to his death. These filters are supposed to prevent PE. However, he died after blood clots traveled to both of his lungs.

The widow's attorneys argue that Red Medical and Argon Medical knew or reasonably should have known that the Option ELITE IVC Filter was dangerous and defective. Defects include high rate of embedment, fracture, migration, perforation of the vena cava wall and thrombosis. This lawsuit joins over 4,000 pending IVC filter lawsuits.

Defective IVC Filter Lawsuits

Defective medical devices, unfortunately, sometimes get through the rigorous testing processes conducted by the FDA. And sadly, once a defective or dangerous device makes it to market, it usually takes hundreds, sometimes thousands of injuries before the dangers are known. Depending on the device, the injuries produced can be life-changing and sometimes fatal. If you have suffered injury or lost a loved one due to a defective medical device in Macon, speak to a Georgia defective medical device attorney.
