City to Offer Free Teen Defensive Driving to Prevent Accidents

iStock_17849680_LARGE-300x200.jpgThe summer is the most dangerous time for teens to be driving - so much so that the days between Memorial Day and Labor Day are frequently called the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers. Teaching your teens how to be safe drivers starts with the parents, but other forms of education are also good tools, and the Bibb County Sheriff's Outreach Section is offering free classes for your teens and young adult children to learn defensive driving.

The classes are designed to help teenagers be aware of the dangers that they face on the road, as well as how to make good driving decisions, how to avoid distraction (a major player in teen car accidents) and how to reduce injuries and crashes.

Where Are These Classes Located?

For your child to participate, he or she must be between 16 and 20 years old and must possess a Georgia driver's license. The classes take place from July 10-13, July 17-20 and July 24-27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first two days of class will take place at Bibb County Sheriff's Outreach Section Office at 2525 Pio Nono Avenue, Suite 100 and the last two days will take place at the Sheriff's Training Facility at 110 Confederate Way in Macon.

If you are unable to make it to the classes, there are plenty of online resources that can help you structure your own plans to educate your teens, including guides provided by AAA, local transportation organizations and, likely, your own auto insurance provider.
