Macon Woman Dies in Motorcycle Accident

accident-skyview-300x200.jpg Earlier this month, a Macon woman died in a motorcycle accident that occurred in

the 1700 block on Rocky Creek Road in south Macon. Although we typically use the term "accident," the unfortunate truth of these incidents is that they are often preventable and should have never occurred.

The accident happened December 6 at 4:41 p.m., according to Bibb County coroner Leon Jones. The 54-year-old woman was coming from the annual Main Street Christmas Parade. She was taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health where she was pronounced dead from multiple force blunt trauma to the head.

Police say an 89-year-old Macon woman was driving a GMC Safari van when she pulled out of Autumn Trace Apartments and in front of the woman's motorcycle. The 89-year-old, who was taken to a local hospital, survived the crash.

Common Types of Motorcycle Collisions

Motorcycle crashes happen for a number of reasons, including:

  • Head-on collisions: Often fatal, this occurs when a car or truck hits a motorcyclist head-on.
  • Rear-end collisions: This happens when a vehicle collides with the rear of a motorcycle, oftentimes, because a driver does not notice the motorcycle ahead of them.
  • Left-hand turns: These incidents happen when a vehicle is turning left onto a road in front of an oncoming motorcycle and does not see the motorcyclist.

Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents

A motorcycle crash may be caused by driver error, failure to check blind spots, aggressive driving, disobeying traffic laws, drunk driving or distracted driving. Additional causes may include a defective part on the bike, not adapting to adverse weather conditions or poor road maintenance.

If you have been in a motorcycle accident you may benefit from an attorney investigating your case and getting proof of what or who caused the wreck. Georgia personal injury lawyers can fight to hold that party liable for your injuries.
